The Spice of Life

Well, I managed to stitch my way through the election and for the first time in my life, I wished that the last place I lived before I came to Germany was Iowa. At least if my absentee ballot had been there, I might have felt like I made a little bit of a difference… but no, the last place I lived before I came here was Mississippi. Really, if there is anywhere in the US that is more conservative, I can’t think of it…

But anyway, about my stitching…

Instead of sticking to my ten-hour rotation system like a good girl and working on “Cat in Garden,” I decided I was in the mood to start a new piece. The piece I chose was one I had been thinking about for quite a while and comes from a book entitled So Many Minis that I bought on clearance eons ago. It is called “Watching Brother” and is small enough that I have whipped it up in eight hours. I need to do the backstitching, but other than that I am done. Then it is back to “Cat in Garden.”

However, I have been thinking about the rotation system. In theory, it is a good idea, but I have some problems with it.

First of all, I don’t feel like ten hours is a good time table to work with. Just when I am really getting into something my ten hours is up. So, I have decided to up the stakes and work on a loose fifteen hour system. I say “loose” because if I feel like working longer on a piece, I will. Otherwise, I will put it down after fifteen hours.

Second of all, I have been thinking about going to a screaming rotation instead of the current numbered system. Why should I have to work on “Cat in Garden” next if I feel like doing “Passing Admirers” instead?

Otherwise, after working with my rotation system for about two months I am pretty happy with it. It really gives me more variety and in my opinion, variety is always a good thing.
