Something that I have never understood is the large discrepancy in the prices for men’s and women’s hair cuts. No matter where you go, whether it is SuperCuts or the ritziest salon, a lady’s hair cut almost always costs double that of the man’s haircut. You can try and tell me it is because cutting a woman’s hair involves so much more cutting and styling than a man’s hair, but I just don’t believe that. All I have to do is walk down the street and see men that have fancier hairstyles than many women and definitely put more work into their hairstyles than I do. Personally, I think it just another way the fashion world rips off women.
In addition to that, I also notice that in most salons not only does a woman’s haircut cost double that of a man’s; if you have “long” hair the price goes up yet again. In most magazines and such, “long” hair is defined as hair that is past the shoulders. With hair that is just shy of my waist, I definitely fall into the “long” hair category.
My hair is all the same length and I keep it that way. Therefore when I go to the salon to get a haircut, the hairdresser has a pretty easy job: I never have them wash or style it (they are not gentle enough with my tender head and pile on the mousse and gel), I just ask them to trim (straight across) about 2cm (or about 1″) from the bottom. From the time I sit in the chair to the time I pay my bill is seldom longer than 15 minutes. When I go with my husband and we both get our hair cut (he has what I call a “basic man cut”) HE is the one that spends more time in the chair. So why do they try and charge me 30 (or more!) euros as opposed to his 15?!
It irritates me so much that I swear if I could do it myself without having it look like a hack-job, I would! However, I suppose since it has been about six months since my last haircut I will have to quit my grumbling and one of these days plunk down the money and get it done!

Just do like meI have my wife cut my hair. If she screws up, I wear a baseball cap for a couple of weeks.

Heck,
I was just talking to my wife - I go to New Hair — they do a good job, but it costs me 30 Euros, plus tip.
Where do you go (does your husband go) for a 15 euro haircut?
Patrick
P.S. I have my appointment today with “Sandra”
