Playing Nurse
4 January 2005

Well, A. got two of his wisdom teeth yanked today. (He will have to go back in a couple of months and get the other two yanked.) Remembering the way that my dad got knocked on his ass after he had his teeth out, I was prepared for the worst. However, since I figure one day I will have to get my wisdom teeth out and he will have to care for me, I was also prepared to be a kind and gentle nurse.

I expected A. to come back from the oral surgeon all doped up and in major pain. Apparently, they gave him lots of local anesthetic and were supposed to give him some sort of knock-out shot. Unfortunately for A., drugs don’t always work on him. I don’t know if he has some sort of funny brain chemistry or what, but usually uppers act like downers and downers act uppers on him. Other times nothing happens at all. Luckily, the local anesthetic worked, but not so luckily, the knock-out shot didn’t. So, even though he didn’t feel anything, he was quite aware of all the drilling and tooth-shattering that was going on. He said that was the worst part: To know that they were doing something, but not feeling it.

Because he didn’t get “knocked-out” and the anesthetic was still working, he came home in a much better state than I had anticipated. However, about 2 hours later the anesthetic wore off. The doctor had given him some codeine, but given his sometime “drug-resistance,” things were a little touchy until he felt the codeine kicking in. Now the left side of his face is all swollen and he is a little bit out of it, but so far he has been a very good patient. Let’s hope he stays that way!

SBQOTW - RIP

I was really disappointed to hear that Jennie has discontinued the Stitching Blogger’s Question of the Week. However, she has her reasons, which I totally understand. Thanks for doing it while you did Jennie! :)
However, I am still full of questions that I would like to have input on from my fellow stitchers! So, while I will not run an “official” and probably not “weekly” question session, I have decided that when I have a stitching question that other people could answer, I will post it here and you are encouraged to leave comments and/or trackbacks. In addition, if you have a question that you are burning to ask others, I would encourage you to do the same on your blog, or alternatively, you can send it to me (I will, of course, give you credit) and I will be happy to post it here.

So, my first question is:

After you stitch a pattern or kit, what do you do with it?

One of my New Year’s Stitching Resolutions is to do something with my patterns.

I have them organized and there are some that I know I will never stitch. I don’t mind “pack-ratting” them away: They don’t take up that much room in the notebook, but if someone else is interested in them, I wouldn’t have a problem giving them a new home.

But, what about all of the patterns that I have already stitched? I seriously doubt I will ever stitch them again, but at the same time I know if I get rid of them, then I will be sure to want them back!

I have thought about offering them up for sale or trade. The problem is, I know I won’t make any money if I sell them and I feel the hassle involved in trying to sell them on eBay, Amazon or somewhere else is probably not worth it. I wouldn’t mind trading, but what if the person that wants the pattern doesn’t have anything I want?

So what about you? What do you do?
