It has been quite a while since I drank to get drunk. Perhaps I had one too many hangovers or woke up in one too many strange beds. Maybe I just grew up. I don’t know, but sometime during the past five years or so drinking to get drunk simply lost its thrill for me. I would now classify myself as a “social drinker.” I still drink, but not to excess and usually only with a meal.
Some people who no longer drink to excess can still have fun when attending a function where most of the people are drunk. They simply enjoy the atmosphere or like to merely observe the foolish things others do when drunk. Not me. If I am surrounded my drunken idiots while I myself am sober I quickly lose all patience and want nothing more than to escape the madness.
For this reason I have never really enjoyed Munich’s famous Oktoberfest and though I missed the bulk of the celebration, I wasn’t all that impressed with the aftermath of “Fasching Dienstag” when I was downtown today.
Fasching is Bavaria’s version of Mardi Gras or Carnival (Karnevale) complete with a parade, funny costumes, and rivers of alcohol. I’m sure had I been drunk it would have been a blast. But I wasn’t and so it was merely loud, crowded, and cold. I vow that next year I will either avoid it all together or be completely plastered!

The “Stitching Blogger’s Question” Mailing List has been a success so far! Every week I have more stitchers sign up for the question, every time I stitch I think of more questions to ask (I am keeping track of them in a little notebook), and I even had my first question suggestion! Who knows? Maybe this will become a weekly meme after all…
The question this time around comes from AngelSan and is:
Is cross stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
As for me, let’s say cross stitch is my main crafty hobby. Sometimes I paint, sew, or quilt and I have tried (unsuccessfully I might add) to crochet, but I always come back to cross stitch.
I have thought off and on about trying to learn to knit, but since my efforts into crochet haven’t been successful, I am not sure. The other problem that I have with yarn hobbies is that I am allergic to wool! And while there are plenty of nice cotton, acrylic, silk, and rayon (just to name a few) yarns out there if one of them has so much as a touch of wool in it I will swell up like a balloon!
So, what about the rest of you?
