The First Sample
As promised, I started “Stitcher’s Sampler” the other day. Here is my progress at eight hours. I am stitching it on 32 count, white Belfast Linen. As you can see, most of my stitch time so far has been spent with DMC 746. I am finished with that color in that area and was finally able to move on to something a bit more interesting.
Behold, I now have a shoe! Or a shoe with a pin cushion on top, rather. I find the concept of a pin cushion in a shoe a little disturbing, as I can think of few other more inappropriate areas for pins, but I guess it is kind of cute.
On a somewhat related note, I must also mention that with this piece I tried out a new (for me anyway) method of starting my thread. Instead of using two strands and then sewing my first five or so stitches over them to tack them down, I tried out the “loop method,” which I read about on one of my bulletin boards. A very handy method, I must say, and quite neat too! (Uh, oh… I think I see a Stitching Blogger’s Question coming on!) I don’t know why I never thought about starting my thread that way before.
All right! Back to “Stitcher’s Sampler” then!

I started using the loop method at the beginning of the year and I really like it too!
Now… do you railroad your stitches?

I have always used the loop method ever since I started stitching. I didn’t know it wasn’t the ‘right’ way to do it
I don’t railroad though - I have tried but it’s a pain!
