Coerced!
8 April 2005
I have been coerced into starting a new project!
When my friend Susie visited Munich a few weeks ago, we decided it would be fun to do a Stitch-Along. We decided on a pattern, “Stiefmütterchen” (”Pansies”) by Der feine Faden and have been discussing the floss, the fabric, and whatnot for about a week.
Now, I hadn’t planned on starting anything new until I was finished with my rotation on “Girl’s Time Out,” but when Susie suggested that we start on our SAL, I couldn’t say no. LOL
Actually, I have been dying to start “Stiefmütterchen” but had been resisting. I got “Stiefmütterchen” as a kit so I already had the fabric and floss, but Susie just had the chart so I was waiting for her to get everything together.
This pattern is divided up into 16 squares on 32 count natural linen and each will have a different pansy in it. I am planning on doing it sort of like a RR and stitching one square at a time. I spent most of this afternoon stitching the “running stitch” that makes up the 16 individual squares. I am not quite finished yet, but I needed a break. I hope to finish it up before bed.
The pattern calls for the running stitch to only be one strand and this hideous shade of green, but after I did about 5 stitches I decided I didn’t like that, so I changed the color to a navy and instead of using one strand, I am using two.
I have never done a SAL before, so I am not sure what the “rules” are. I assume that the goals of a SAL are not necessarily to stitch something that ends up like a clone, but just to work on (in our case) the same pattern and keep each other motivated to finish it. And maybe, if you are into competition, see who can stitch the most in a certain amount of time…
Well, I’m off to finish up my running stitches!
