Stiefmütterchen

Stiefmütterchen, progess as of 11.04.05. Click for a larger image! I finished my first pansy for “Stiefmütterchen” tonight. It stitched up nicely with only four main color changes in shades of purple.

As I think I have mentioned before, pansies are by far my favorite flower. I don’t have much of a green thumb (in fact, hubby likes to tease me that it is black), but I usually try to grow pansies in the spring and fall. I had been meaning to buy four or six seedlings to plant in the window box on my balcony, but alas, before I could do so the door on our balcony broke. While we are waiting for it to be fixed, I can’t go out onto the balcony because the door guy removed the broken piece, which just so happened to be the handle! I guess it’s a good thing I hadn’t gotten any pansies yet, for by now with no water and the cold nights we’ve been having, I’m sure they would be dead. Perhaps if our balcony door gets fixed soon I can plant some. Otherwise, “Stiefmütterchen” may be the only pansies that I get to enjoy this spring.

Susie and I have been gabbing back and forth about out SAL. She is just about finished with her running stitches and will start her first pansy soon. Since I need to get back to working on “Girl’s Time Out,” I will be putting “Stiefmütterchen” aside for now and will wait until Susie gets her first pansy done before I go any further.

What I think I am going to like about this piece is that even though it is large, it is easily divided into the 16 squares. If each square takes me about as long as the first one (6 hours) it will definitely be a great piece to work on (and get instant gratification) during the down times in my rotation or when I want to stitch, but not on something big.
