Off-Center

Pansy SAL; Progress as of 02.06.05 - Click for a larger image! As predicted, I finished my SAL pansy before we left for vacation. In fact, I just finished it up and it took me right around five hours. It only had three major colors in it, so it stitched up pretty fast. Yeah! Mini-Happy Dance for me!

However, you may notice that it is slightly off-center. This particular pansy is slightly off-center in the model too, but mine is a little more off than theirs. I realized that it was going to be off when I was about half way finished with it, but decided against ripping it all out and starting over. I figure it just gives it that personal touch!

Anyway, I can tell you exactly why it is off-center. I thought I would try stitching it from the bottom right-hand corner up instead of from the middle out. I know a lot of people stitch from one edge in and/or around and I think with some designs it would definitely be advantageous if I could do it too. However, every single time I try to stitch from the edges, no matter how carefully I count or how many times I do it, I always manage to get the design off-center. I officially give up: I will never try to stitch any way but from the middle out again!

Of course, it also didn’t help that the chart was confusing here. It spans onto a second page and doesn’t have a few gray “overlap” rows like most charts do when they run over. I had to try and match the pages up and hope I succeeded it stitching it correctly in that area. Apparently, Susie had trouble with the chart in that area too, but her pansy (you can see it here!) isn’t nearly as badly off-center as mine.

Ah well, character… that’s what this piece has… Character! :)
