Monday Madness…

…on Tuesday!
OK, so I was bored and trying to come up with something for the ol’ blog, when I ran across Monday Madness. Though I found this week’s questions particularly interesting, what I found even more interesting were my answers. So, before you go any further, ask yourself, what you would do in the following situations and then read my answers.

1. The store clerk undercharges you for an item you purchase?
2. The cashier gives you change for a fifty dollar bill when you only gave her a twenty, and you don’t realize it until you’re out the door?
3. You see your best friend’s husband/wife with another woman/man at a neighborhood restaurant?
4. Your 15 year old asks you if you ever tried an alcoholic beverage before you were of legal drinking age (and you have)?
5. You find a one hundred dollar bill laying on the floor of a department store?

The store clerk undercharges you for an item you purchase?

This has happened to me a couple of times, but not exactly in the way mentioned. A few times I have had more than one of the same item in my cart but have only been charged for one of said item. I usually notice the error right away but, to be honest, I have never pointed the error out to the clerk.

The cashier gives you change for a fifty dollar bill when you only gave her a twenty, and you don’t realize it until you’re out the door?

This is fairly unlikely in my opinion, because store clerks rarely get 50s or 100s and if they do, you can bet that they remember! It seems more likely to say you get change for a 20 when you gave the clerk a 10. In either case, I would keep on a-walkin’! It isn’t my fault the cashier made a mistake, now is it?

You see your best friend’s husband/wife with another woman/man at a neighborhood restaurant?

So? The question really is “Do I tell my best friend what I saw?” isn’t it? For this, my answer is that it depends on who my best friend’s husband is with and if it looks suspicious. There is nothing that says my best friend’s husband can’t have other women as friends.

However, if they are snuggling and looking like they are planning on going somewhere else for dessert, well, then first I would talk to my best friend’s hubby. It could be completely innocent.

If I feel like he is hiding something though, I would feel compelled to say something to my best friend.

Your 15 year old asks you if you ever tried an alcoholic beverage before you were of legal drinking age (and you have)?

I would tell him or her the truth. I see no reason to hide it.

Of course as long as I live here in Europe it isn’t as big of an issue as it is in the United States. However, if I were in the U.S., it would be my duty as a parent to remind them it is illegal and he or she could face consequences.

But no matter where we were living, I would also hope that I had a good enough relationship with my 15 year old that even if he or she had been drinking he/she would feel comfortable enough to call me to come and get him/her instead of getting into a car with someone who had been drinking.

I would immediately go buy some lottery tickets with it… because, obviously, it is my lucky day!

The Home Stretch

Today I finished the bottom of Maggie’s dress! As soon as I finish up her underskirt, I will be done with all of the cross stitching in this piece! I will then naturally have some backstitching to do, but not as much as you might think. There is also a teeny bit of beading (this will be my first attempt at beading), about 50 French Knots in Maggie’s underskirt (not exaggerating either… but that’s OK: I do wicked FKs), and half a dozen Lazy Daisies (never done them before either) to do as well.

I agree that I still have a lot of work to do, BUT I can see the finish line and it is such an awesome feeling! Seriously, when I bought this pattern almost a year ago I never even thought I would have enough courage to start it, let alone FINISH it! My, oh, my how my stitching confidence has grown and how my tastes have changed in such a short amount of time… mostly thanks to the online stitching community.
I don’t really have much more to say about “Passing Admirers” at the moment: Maggie’s dress has stitched up very smoothly. The only problem I had was when I ripped out a couple of rows that I thought I had messed up about a month ago, but then realized I hadn’t made a mistake after all. I am not sure I would count that as a major problem though, just a frustration. However, the underskirt might be a bit more challenging: It isn’t exactly confetti stitching, but there are a lot of different colors scattered throughout the underskirt and it might take some time to stitch up.

Otherwise, I am already looking forward to my next large project(s) and have been doing some rotation thinking. I will most likely start either “Catch the Wind” or “The Candy Tuft Fairy” (they are running neck and neck in the poll) as my next large project. However, I still have the “Stitcher’s Sampler” in my WIP pile. It is quite large, only about 15% complete, and I haven’t touched it since March. I also have my round robins and exchanges to do and I would like to finish a couple of smaller projects that I started back in May.

I will, of course, be giving any exchanges and robins priority, but otherwise I’ve been thinking about rotating my non-obligation projects on a weekly basis: This way all of my pieces would get some attention, but since I would work on them for a whole week they would get my undivided attention for longer than just a few hours. I am not sure yet though. Once “Passing Admirers” is finished I will revisit the issue a bit more seriously.
