Stitching Student

Amazingly, stitching-wise my first week of school went pretty well. I managed to stitch an hour to an hour a half every day except yesterday and that was because I was totally beat.

Last night before I collapsed into bed though I decided to try and take my current project (the needleroll exchange) with me to school today. We have two fifteen minute breaks so I thought I would see if I could get anything accomplished during them. This is how it went:

During the first break I didn’t really get too much done because as soon as I pulled out my project everyone was interested in what I was doing. They asked me a million questions and for the first time I had to talk at some length about my hobby in German!

German word of the day “Kreuzstich” or, in English… “Cross stitch”

I showed them the German magazine from which the pattern came and after everybody had a look at what I was doing and “oohed” and “ahhed” over it there were only about five minutes left in the break. I got my fabric in the hoop and my needle threaded though, so I was primed for our next break. During the second break the novelty had apparently worn off because nobody really bothered me and I managed to get a little chunk done.

I was so pleased with my success at school that I then though about stitching on my way home. After all, I know Jo stitches during her train ride to and from work and I figured if Jo can do it, I can too! I don’t know how long Jo’s train ride is, but my ride on the S-Bahn (the suburban train system) is about 30 minutes each way; more than enough time to get something done!

The train was a little more crowded that it has been the past few afternoons and of course a rather large woman sat right beside me on the way home, but I tried stitching anyway. I did get a little done, but I realized that I need to be a little more compactly organized to be able to successfully stitch on the train without bothering anyone.

All in all though I was pretty happy about using this time that is otherwise more or less wasted to get some stitching done, so I will probably try again next week.

Three other small stitching notes:

  1. I got a message about one of my round robins (neither of the SBRRs) today that really, really pissed me off. I was going to bitch about it here, but then Dawn came online and I chatted with her about it and let off my steam, so I feel better now. I am still somewhat irked about it, but don’t feel like boring you with the details here… yet.
  2. I am about 80% done with my needleroll exchange and hope to start on my Halloween exchange this weekend.
  3. I went to my LNS today and he was having a 25% off sale!! I didn’t have a list of things that I needed with me, but I bought a pattern that I had had my eye on for a while: Passione Ricamo’s “Romantic Stitcher.” She had been just a bit out of my price range, but with 25% off the chart, she was doable, so I snapped her up. Yeah! That’s one thing I can cross off my want-list. :D

I am going to be stitching away this weekend on my exchanges and maybe a little on “Passing Admirers” too if I get the chance. Hope everyone else has a productive, stitchy weekend too. :)
