Hold It!

20:07 sbq

This week’s SBQ was suggested by Kim and is:

What do you use to hold your fabric while you stitch? A hoop, a Q-Snap, a scroll frame, something else, or do you stitch in hand? Have you always used just the one thing or have you tried one or more of the others? Which do you like best? Why?

I am a hoop user and have been since I first started stitching. I have tried stitching in hand a couple of times, but I didn’t like it. I didn’t feel like my stitching was very neat and it made my hands hurt.

I only learned about such things as Q-snaps, scroll frames, lap stands, etc., etc. about a year ago. Since then I have read up a little on the different gadgets and came to the conclusion that I probably wouldn’t be too interested in a lap or floor stand. I don’t think they would work for me because I tend to frequently change my sitting position when I stitch and because I like my stitching to be portable.

However, I was curious about Q-snaps and recently bought a set. To give them a fair chance, I did do a small project using them, but I must say that was not too impressed by them. I was unhappy with what I felt was a lack of tension and after using them for a few hours my hands were really tired (perhaps I was holding the Q-snap too tightly). And this may seem funny, but their square shape made it uncomfortable for me to stitch with them.

In the end the hoop method just works best for me, so I will stick with it… Besides, I really like my little blue hoop! :)
