Dragon Cube

Today I decided that since hubby is away for the weekend at his parents’ house and Monday is his birthday I should take advantage of his absence and make something for him for his birthday. We have been going through a difficult patch lately (mostly due to communication issues), so when I was looking for something quick to stitch for his birthday and came across Dragon Dreams’ “Love Takes Two” freebie I thought it would be perfect.
This pattern is super small (30×20) and stitched up quickly (2½ hours). Since my goal was to do this for hubby’s birthday I was glad that I was able to finish it so fast: After all, I didn’t just want to stitch something for him, I wanted to have a completed project by the time he gets home on Monday!
After the stitching was done the question then became what to finish it as. I thought briefly about an ornament, but then I remembered yesterday Jo posted a picture of her Halloween exchange from Shelleen. Jo’s exchange was finished into a decorative cube and I have wanted to try making a cube since instructions to a no-sew cube webpage were posted in the finishing forum of the SBEBB.
The instructions for the no-sew cube seemed simple enough and once I determined that I had the materials I needed (it took a bit of effort to locate some styrofoam, but I managed) I decided to give the no-sew cube a whirl. The instructions were great! They were easy to follow and I had no absolutely no difficulties with the finishing, even though I did end up slightly light-headed because of the glue that I was using. ![]()
I really like the way this little cube turned out. Since I didn’t have anything to embellish it with in comparison to some it looks pretty plain. However, I decided in the end that since it is for hubby anyway that is OK.
Hubby likes to tease me about how my craft things are just glorified dust collectors, and maybe they are, but I hope he likes his little dragon cube anyway.
