Future Projects

15:49 sbq

I know I am a day late (yesterday was unexpectedly hectic) with this week’s SBQ, but thanks to Bea, here it is:

When you have almost finished a pattern and start thinking about the next one to stitch, how do you select it? (a list, most recent purchase, etc.)

I really have no rhyme or reason to the way that I select my new projects. Since I work on a rotation now (however loose it may be) I don’t feel obligated to wait until I finish a piece before I start something new anymore.

In any case however, I consider myself a spur-of-the-moment starter: This means that once I decide I want to start a new project, I just do it. I usually begin by sifting through my charts and when I find one that I think I might want to stitch, I plan it out by checking to see if I have enough fabric and floss before actually kitting anything up.

If I have everything I need I will start stitching away. However, if I have to make a floss- or fabric-run the project is likely to just sit for a few days. By the time I have a chance to go my LNS, my desire to stitch on the project may have run its course and in that case, I just put it back into my stash.

Of course, there are other times when I suddenly remember a project that I have in my stash and just have to stitch it. In those cases I will start immediately with what I have, using what fabric I already possess and substituting floss colors if necessary.

With the end of “Passing Admirers” in sight though, I have approached the whole situation a bit differently. Once I am finished, instead of starting whatever pattern (large or small) that tickles my fancy, it is my intention to start a new “large” project. Therefore, lately I have been thinking a lot about which “large” project I want to stitch next.

I was having a tough time deciding though and thought it would be interesting to hear the opinions of other stitchers, so I put together a little poll where the readers of my blog could give me their input on the matter. (The poll will be running until “Passing Admirers” is complete: See the bottom of the page if you want to vote!) I don’t know if I will follow the will of my readers when I finally decide which project to stitch next, but it is interesting to see what you would like to see me do! :)

    Am I first? :)
I think I’m a spur-of-the-moment starter, too. I tend to start a project if it screams at me long and hard enough, regardless of whether I have ‘almost finished’ anything…
