Now that I have my exchanges and round robins under control and “Passing Admirers” is almost done I decided it was time to take a look at the three pieces that I had designated “Temporary UFOs” and figure out what to do with them.
- 1.) “Stitcher’s Sampler”
- ▪ Last worked on: March 2005
- ▪ Stitch time: 15 hours
- ▪ Percent complete: Approximately 15%
- ▪ Comments:
I still have every intention to finish this project. Since it is what I call a “large” piece it will become my large focus piece once “Passing Admirers” is finished. This won’t prevent me from starting another large project once “Passing Admirers” is done, but my plan is to give “Stitcher’s Sampler” a good 20 or 30 hours before doing so.
- 2.) “Little Stitch Devils”
- ▪ Last worked on: May 2005
- ▪ Stitch time: 7 hours
- ▪ Percent complete: Approximately 15% (all three); 50% (Thimble Devil)
- ▪ Comments:
There are three little devils in this series and my original idea was to stitch all three together on one piece of fabric. I already had the “Thimble Devil” about 50% complete and since I would really like to get this piece out of my UFO/WIP pile, I decided to work on it this afternoon. The “Thimble Devil” is now about 65% complete.
However, I have come to the conclusion that these EMS designs are not really my style anymore and so I don’t really want to stitch all three of the devils any longer. Therefore once I am done with the “Little Stitch Devil with Thimble” I am going to call the project quits.
- 3.) “Mirabilia 2001 Guardian Cherub”
- ▪ Last worked on: May 2005
- ▪ Stitch time: 7.5 hours
- ▪ Percent complete: Approximately 20%
- ▪ Comments:
I still like this pattern a lot, but am not sure about my color changes anymore. The more I look at it the more I would like to stitch it “as is.” I have also been thinking about doing this as a baby sampler for my soon-to-be nephew and so I would like the baby to be a little less feminine.
The way I see it, I have two choices with this project: Either rip it all out and start it again according to the recommended colors or start a brand new piece with the recommended colors and designate the one that I started the color changes on as a permanent UFO. I guess until I decide this piece will remain a “Temporary UFO.”

I’m going to do my UFOs as soon as all the Christmas projects are done. I only have 2 or 3, thankfully, and I’m eager to get them done!

Good luck on your decision on the Miribilia. So hard to think about ripping out one’s work on a piece. And congratulations on only have three pieces designated as UFOs - I’ve got at least 3 times that 3!
