Finishing Monday
5 December 2005

Last night I completed the stitching on my Garden Exchange piece for the SBEBB and today I finished it off! Well, almost… If tomorrow was the mailing day I could mail it out, but I am trying to decide if I want to add a couple of other embellishments to it. I think it would look cute with a couple of bug buttons added to the corners and maybe a tassel to the bottom, but I am still contemplating the situation. Since I have plenty of time before the mailing date is upon me I have some time to think about it. Sorry, no picture quite yet. You will have to wait until my partner has received it… and that won’t be until January! :P
Old Time Bathtub Tuck Pillow Ornie: Click for a larger image! While I had the sewing machine out I decided to finish off another one of my WTF pieces that I had a brainstorm about the other night. Using some fabric scraps that approximately matched its color and style, I decided to make “Old Time Bathtub” (an ornament-sized piece that I stitched a couple of years ago) into a tuck pillow.

I didn’t think making a tuck pillow would be all that hard and technically I was right. However, that didn’t stop me from having to rip it apart and start over three times!
The actual method of putting the pillow together was quite simple: However, when I put it together I discovered that at 2 ½” wide, the strips that formed the frame around the stitching were really too large and hid most of my stitching. In an attempt to fix the problem, I ripped the pillow apart, cut the frame pieces in half and sewed it back together. Unfortunately, this time the frame pieces were way too thin! So thin, in fact that when I turned the pillow out the framing strips barely even cover the stitched piece!

I ripped the thing apart again, measured some new strips that were 2″ wide instead of 2 ½ ” and sewed it back together. This time the framing strips were perfect, but as I was stuffing it I realized that I had sewed the thing together backwards! So, once again, I ripped it apart. Finally I put it together the right way, stuffed it, added a ribbon to the top for hanging, hung it up, and I was finished.

And what more appropriate place to hang the “Old Time Bathtub” than on my bathroom door handle? :)
