A New Start
30 December 2005 22:53 coming soon, wips
Today I began my first official start for 2006: “Catch the Wind,” a Butternut Road Design by Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum. I spent part of the afternoon preparing my fabric (washing, ironing, zigzagging the edges) and wasn’t going to upload a progress pic, as I have only stitched on it for two hours. However, since I decided to blog about it, I figured a progress picture wouldn’t hurt after all!
I am stitching “Catch the Wind” (hereafter known as CtW) on 32 count Wichelt-Permin English Rose Linen. Like “Passing Admirers,” I will be stitching one girl at a time on CtW and I have decided to name them so that you know which one I am talking about. There are three girls: On the far right is a blonde in a blue dress and she will be named Anna. In the middle is her best friend in a green dress and she will be named Jane. (Since she is in the middle, I will be working on Jane first.) On the left is a girl in a red dress that I think looks like she could be Jane’s sister and she will be named Mary. I like naming the girls because I think it gives them a little more character and if I wanted to, I could make up a story that goes along with the picture… but I digress.
Anyway, the other interesting thing about this piece is that today I asked Cathy if she wants to do a SAL with me and she said yes. (She has been working on CtW for a while now, so I definitely have some catching up to do!) We will work on it one day a week, but haven’t decided which day yet. Hopefully we will do a good enough job of keeping each other motivated that we will both finish by the end of 2006!
In other news I am still waiting on my fabric and beads for “Celtic Spring.” In addition to the “Water Lily,” I also ordered two other pieces of fabric. I ordered them in case I don’t like “Water Lily” for “Celtic Spring,” (hereafter known as CS) but now I am hoping that one of them will also work for “Ashley’s Roses.”
I just decided to do “Ashley’s Roses” (hereafter known as AR) about two days ago, so I am still in the preparation-phase, but I think it would look nice on a grayish-blue fabric and I think one the others that I ordered is supposed to be that color, so we’ll see.
And last but not least, I have had a few inquires as to exactly where in the US I will be when I go home: Well, my home state is Iowa and I will be there visiting family for most of my trip, but I will also be taking a road trip to Mississippi to see Dawn. I wish I had enough time to meet all of the stitching friends I have made in the US, but I guess that will probably have to wait until my next trip!
Have a great New Year’s Eve!

I love that you named the girls. Part of the reason I love that design so much is that it grabs your imagination. We’ll have fun stitching it.

Congrats for your start. That chart is beautiful, I love it and I voted it in your poll. Now I can’t wait for new progresses.
