A Dragon Named Confetti
24 April 2006 22:51 adventures in stitching, wips
I have been trying to name my “Above the Clouds” dragon for a couple of weeks now. At first I wanted to name him Norbert in honor of Hagrid’s baby dragon in Harry Potter and the Philosopher (Sorcerer)’s Stone, but upon investigating my Harry Potter Lexicon I realized this dragon doesn’t fit the description of a Norwegian Ridgeback.
Tonight however, I came upon the perfect name for him: I am going to call him Confetti in honor(?) of all the @!#?%$ confetti stitching that I did today and will be doing on him in the future!
This is the first time that I have had to do so much confetti stitching for one project. In the past I have had a couple projects with a few little areas, but never have I done anything with so much of it! Two stitches here, change colors, rethread the needle, three stitches there, change colors, rethread the needle, weave the loose thread under, and start again. Egads! My progress was so slow today that at this rate I will have both “Celtic Spring” AND “Fairy Flora” done before I finish this TW “Petite!”
Of course, this leads me to believe that I must be going about this whole confetti stitching thing rather inefficiently. If you have any suggestions for better confetti stitching, please leave me a comment… But for now think I will go have a look online for some tips. Cheers!

Despite the stop and starts- it’s looking great!

I use those washout blue markers and mark as much of a run of a symbol as I can. The early stuff just gets dragged around, while the later confetti gets run under from place to place if it’s over a couple-three stitches.

When I was working on a Stoney Creek wedding sampler that had a very detailed (read: confetti-crazy) wreath, I finally just picked one colour and did all the stitches in that colour. Then I moved onto the next colour, did all the stitches with that and so on. Probably not the most effective way to do it, but it worked for me.
Another method that may work (that I haven’t tried myself) is the “parking” method. There’s a good description of it on the Heaven and Earth Designs BB…here’s the link: http://p081.ezboard.com/fheavenandearthdesignsfrm128.showMessage?topicID=2.topic (scroll down to Alarah Steel’s post on the first page).

LOL! I’m not much good at confetti stitching either, and have never really gotten the hang of parking my stitches. Good luck!

I do almost the same as Christine said. It might not be the neatest way in the world, but it’s the easiest.
I’ll do as much stitching as I can with one thread, and then move onto a different colour, moving across the pattern in blocks or rows.

ROFL!!! Great name. My only advice is that if you care about how your back looks, STOP CARING. It will look awful by the time you are done this project. I guarantee it.
Great progress!

I do the same as a few of the earlier posters - I stitch as much of one colour as I can, skipping holes and stitches and stuff, and then colour in the stitches I’ve done with a pencil. It goes much faster than switching every two or three stitches.

Nice name! my dragon’s name is Moony, she is Moonlight Dragon from Dragon Dreams, so it was an easy name to find out!
