Today I felt like a quick happy dance, so I decided to go ahead and stitch the insert for the card that I am planning on making for my step-niece’s birthday. I chose to stitch Dragon Dreams’ “1997 Christmyth Unicorn” for her. I did a little color conversion to give the unicorn spring colors as opposed to winter, stitched it on 18 count Wedgewood Aida cloth, and will be mounting it on pink card stock. I think Emmy (my step-niece) will really like it!
Anyway, as I was stitching the unicorn today I was bemoaning the fact that it didn’t seem like I had had many happy dances yet in 2006. However, when I sat down and listed them it turns out that I have actually had eight (8) finishes so far this year! The reason it didn’t seem like I had any is because instead of keeping the things for myself, all of my finishes this year have been round robin squares, exchange pieces, or gifts.
2006 Finishes (in order of completion)
- “Wheelbarrow” - Birthday Exchange for Melissa
- “Little Feet” – Gift for my sister and nephew
- “Keeping the Eggs Dry” – RR Square for Jo
- “Christmas Eve” – RR Square for Laurie
- “Hearts Needlebook” – Birthday Exchange for Cathy
- Spring Exchange for XXX
- “Autumnology Scarecrow” – RR Square for Cathy
- “1997 Christmyth Unicorn” – Birthday card for Emmy
I am glad to know that even though the 2006 album in my gallery looks thin, I have been more productive than I originally thought! I guess that is the “problem” with large projects though: Even though they are amazing when they happen, the happy dances are fewer and further between!

I like to mix small projects in with the medium/large ones to keep me motivated. Eight finishes this year sounds terrific!
