Welcome Spring!
01 April 2006 18:23 round robins, exchanges, & gifts, wips
I will probably come back and edit this post with an update of “Celtic Spring” later this evening, (and that isn’t an April Fool’s joke either!
) but what I wanted to blog about right now is that today I got my Spring Exchange from Katrina in New Zealand.
She stitched me a delicate little spring needleroll and included a bunch of other goodies that included The Trilogy’s “Friendship” chart, some lanolin soap, a package of rabbit-shaped Gelées, the obligatory postcard, and a handkerchief that is embroidered with spring roses. I don’t know if Katrina embroidered the handkerchief or not, but in any case I love it! Thanks again Katrina!
Here is the promised update of “Celtic Spring.” I have to say that Mae is really stitching up nicely. I have actually stitched more of the purple side borders than this pic shows, but I wanted to give you a close-up of Mae herself. As you can see, I have now given her hair and a face.
Today while working on Mae I also did something I have not done before: I decided to backstitch this piece as I go along. (Well, more or less.) This piece has a lot of beading that I won’t do until the end, but the backstitching is minimal and limited to Mae’s eye, face, hand, and bodice so I decided to go ahead and do it now instead of later.
Now to clarify “more or less:” Mae’s eye, face, and hand were backstitched today. However, due to the proximity of beads, the backstitching on the bodice will be completed at a later time.
I must say that I am quite happy that I backstitched what I did today. Mae looks so alive now that I just want to keep stitching and stitching on her! However, she will have to wait until next Saturday because tomorrow I am going to start my square on the final round of Dawn’s Seasonal Round Robin.
