In a feeble attempt to start writing again in this blog and celebrate Independence Day tomorrow, I give you a meme!

Do you do anything special to celebrate your national holiday?

Since moving to Germany I haven’t done anything to celebrate the Fourth of July, but when I lived in Iowa it was ritual to run to the state line a couple of days before the Fourth and since they are illegal in Iowa, buy some fireworks in Missouri. A typical Independence Day would then be celebrated by hanging out with friends, having a BBQ, getting drunk, and setting off said fireworks before they got confiscated. If the fireworks got confiscated, we would then head somewhere to see the “official” fireworks.

If I was visiting your hometown, what place or activity would you recommend to me?

To be honest, my hometown is so small that I doubt you would be visiting there unless you already know someone who lives there. However, if you happen to be in Small Town Iowa and need something to do, go to the lake.
