Ornamentified!

21:10 finishing, happy dances

Babys First Christmas Ornie for Slate - Click for a larger image! With six days to go before Christmas I have finally finished the Baby’s 1st Christmas ornament for my sister/nephew!

While I had planned on giving the ornament to my sister early enough so she could hang it on the tree, I need to confer with my mom as to exactly when I should give it to her. I could give it to her as early as tomorrow, but we are having Christmas with my mom’s side of the family on Saturday and I was actually thinking of giving it to her then… that way a bunch of people could ooh and ahh over it… hee hee

This was the first time I have tried a finishing method that was anything but square and I am pleasantly pleased with the results. I don’t think that the back of the ornament got centered as neatly as the front side, but once the cording was added I doubt it is noticeable to anyone but me. (We are always our own worst critics, aren’t we? ;) )

And as my Christmas present to my readers, I remembered to photograph the process and have added a new tutorial entitled “Padded Shape Ornie” to my sidebar. Enjoy!

Thank you for the very clear and well-illustrated steps! :) Your ornament is beautiful and I doubt anyone will notice if the centering is off a wee bit or not. (I wouldn’t notice it!)

Lovely ornament ! A little tip though: if you sew around the design and pull, you can recenter the design on the cardboard just before glueing. And you don’t have to make cuts in the fabric… (see http://angelsan.free.fr/blog/?page_id=141 )Just an idea… ;)

The ornie is beautiful and your sister is sure to love it. The finishing looks great. Whenever I put two sides together one side stays straight and the other…not so much and it is very off. Yours doesn’t look off at all.
    Happy Stitching & Holidays!

It’s beautiful, congrats Renee! I had a problem lining up the front and back of one of the baby’s 1st ornaments that I did, as well. Thanks for the tutorial!

Hello! I was browsing a friend’s friend pages and came across your blog. I was thrilled to see your finished ornament. I just finished two of these as well. Yours turned out lovely! You can see pics of mine here and here.

All of your work is beautiful. I would love to be a part of your exchange group one day. I run an exchange and round robin community on Livejournal. Seems as though we have a lot in common!
