Cross Stitch Workshop

You will never believe what my mom got me into!

First of all, I don’t know if I have ever mentioned it or not, but my mom is quite a seamstress. Right now her passion is piecing quilt tops, but in my youth she did alterations around town and sewed many, many of my clothes. As a result, her sewing skills are well-known around my community.

A couple of weeks ago, she got a call from the Extension Office. A workshop was being organized for the 4-H groups of our county and they wondered if she would be able to put on a sewing workshop Saturday, March 10.

Unfortunately, Mom had to turn them down because she has to work. However, if they were looking for something “crafty” my mom mentioned that perhaps I would be interested in doing a cross stitch workshop… After all, I have been teaching my niece to stitch.

So, later that day I got a call from the Extension Office asking me if I could put on said cross stitch workshop. And because I am a former 4-Her I said yes.

Saturday I will be teaching anywhere from 5-25 3rd through 6th grade students how to cross stitch! Wish me luck!

A Little Snowman

Latest Finish, 07.03.2007: 2006 Snowman - Click for a larger image! I have a little secret: About 1/3 of the way into beading “Celtic Spring,” I decided that I was tired of beading and wanted to actually cross stitch. As a result, I put Mae aside a few days ago and started a little something so I could get a quick happy dance fix and mark another item off my 25 Projects Challenge list!

I chose Ursula Michael’s “2006 Snowman” from last year’s JCS ornament edition. I started him last weekend during “The Blizzard of ‘07,” so he quickly came to represent the way that March roared into Iowa this year. However, as I was stitching him I also remembered how my niece and I built a snowman from the resulting 15 inches of snow, so he is also representing the ideal version of what our snowman was supposed to look like.

And speaking of my niece… Sunday is her 7th birthday so I decided I am going to finish this little guy into a little flat-fold for her present. I hope she likes it… :)
