Happy Birthday to Me!

The Pansy Fairy, Progress as of 22.05.07 - Click for a larger image! Yep, a little self-promotion. Your good wishes are accepted. :D

Anyway, here is my progress for this month’s Robin’s Nest SAT. I am quite pleased with my results. With my abbreviated stitching time at the moment, I am glad I decided to work on a little project where I would see quick results. I guess I am in need of a happy dance!

Sadly though, I must put my “Pansy Fairy” away until I finish my exchange piece for Catherine-Michèle’s birthday. I am a little embarrassed to admit that I only picked out the pattern and kitted it up today, but I do have an excuse: I actually started something a couple of weeks ago, but for whatever reason I was extremely unhappy with the way the finishing turned out. And because I didn’t like the end result, I couldn’t get motivated to restitch it and so I kept putting it off. Once I decided to start over from scratch I was much happier, but it wasn’t until today that I really had time to choose something new.

Of course, with just a little over a week to stitch and finish Catherine-Michèle’s birthday exchange, I guess my needles better start smoking tomorrow!

Pansy Fairy

The Pansy Fairy, Progress as of 19.05.07 - Click for a larger image! I haven’t had much stitching time in the past couple of weeks as I started working full-time, but I did manage to start a little something new. The Pansy Fairy: A quick and fun stitch that I am planning on keeping all for myself!

Remember how I claimed to have a complete set of DMC minus the 100s? Well, apparently DMC has a 779 because it is needed for backstitching this piece. I looked and looked through all my floss thinking that I must have missed the skein when I wound all my bobbins, but I found nothing.

Upon checking my official DMC checklist I discovered an older checklist did not list 779 whereas a newer one did. I guess when I finally make trip to the LNS to complete my 100s, I will have to pick up a couple of other colors too…

Code of Silence

Comments Off

When you get home from work, it’s natural that the other people living in your home want to know how your day was. And, as you would expect, the people who care about you are curious as to what and how you are doing. However, when that new job is involved in law enforcement and public safety, you start to think about what you say and to whom.

I would never intentionally violate someone’s privacy nor would I start a rumor on purpose, but in Small Town Iowa someone could overhear something at the grocery store and take it completely out of context. Within minutes, there are a hundred different versions around town, each being worse than the last and the tidbit that was taken in isolation is full-fledged, out-of-control gossip. Eventually the gossip will reach the right (or wrong) ears and then the person that may have said something similar to the alleged statement will have to face the music.

With just over a week under my belt at my new dispatch center, the above scenario has not yet happened to me, but suddenly I notice myself much more aware of what I say to everyone, including my own family. Mom has even been given permission to completely change the subject out of the blue if she hears me mentioning work and Step-dad has been told to ignore me.

I am sure that once I get in the habit of not talking about how my day was at work unintentionally letting things slip won’t be much of a problem though… After all, my life contains so much more than just work.

SBQ: Last Call

This week’s SBQ was suggested by Juls and is:

If you could only stitch one more piece what would it be and why?

When I first read this I thought it had the potential to be a very boring question. After all, I am sure many people will think it is an impossible question to answer: I did. However, I decided that not answering was the easy way out. So I thought about it for a minute and came up with a legitimate answer…

Obviously, this is a loaded question as its answer can change continuously, but as of this moment, if someone told me that I could only stitch one more piece I would have to do “Tapestry Cat” by TW. For me, the verdict is still out on how much I like to stitch TWs, but ever since I first saw it, I have been in love with “Tapestry Cat” and if it is the last thing I ever do (as is suggested in this question), I will stitch it.
