SBQ: Stitch Speak

15:42 sbq

I know that stitchers are joining the blogosphere everyday and while some of these bloggers are seasoned stitchers, there are plenty of newbies out there too so I thought this week’s SBQ might be a fun way for everyone to learn how to speak our language.

For seasoned stitchers: Define a stitching term or acronym for new stitchers. For newbies: What stitching term or acronym would you like defined?

I have been around the stitching blogosphere long enough now that I seldom run into a stitching acronym or term that I am unfamiliar with anymore. However, I remember when I was learning my way around I kept seeing HAED and had no idea what it meant. Finally I asked someone and found out:

HAED = Heaven and Earth Designs

My favorite stitching acronyms are:

BAP = Big Ass Project - There are no hard and fast rules as to what constitutes a BAP. It could be based on the actual size of the project, the hours spent working on it, or even the complexity of the design. One of my biggest assed projects was only about 5″x7″, but the moment it became a PITA (pain in the ass) to work on it became a BAP!

SABLE = Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy - If you wonder if you have reached SABLE, ask yourself this: If I never bought anymore stash and lived a long, happy life could I stitch everything that is currently in my stash? If the answer is no, you have reached SABLE.

As with many acronyms, you might find different stitchers may interpret them slightly differently, but the general sense remains.
