Year End Meme
Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Hmm… I don’t think I made any New Year’s resolutions last year. I don’t have any plans to make any this year either.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep! Dawn had Megan in September. A couple of other people that I know had babies too, but I am not especially close to them.
Did anyone close to you die?
Not exactly. My dad’s cousin died (I think that makes him my first cousin, once removed), but I didn’t know him very well.
What countries did you visit?
Does Arkansas count as another country? :lol:
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Some of the “things” that I left at my mom’s house when I moved to Texas because the moving van ran out of room.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting As in all of the graduate classes that I took.
What was your biggest failure?
I created a series of independent workshops that weren’t as well-attended as I had hoped. Oh well, there’s always next semester!
What was the best thing you bought?
My BED!!!!
Where did most of your money go?
Bills
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My sister and my niece’s visit over Spring Break.

What song will always remind you of 2008?
I can’t think of anything in particular.
Did you fall in love in 2008?
I really, really like someone, but I am not ready to call it love.
How many one-night stands?
That is nobody’s business but my own.
What was your favorite TV program?
HOUSE!!! I also discovered Dexter and Weeds and like both of them a lot too.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I do not hate. It wastes too much time and energy.
What was the best book you read?
I don’t like the term “best.” It is too subjective. However, I had some favorite books. For class: The Godfather and The Jungle. For fun: The Little Book.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Last.fm
What did you want and get?
A new bed.
What did you want and not get?
A new computer. (Actually I just started wanting a new computer a couple of months ago. I just need to save the money now.)
What were your favorite films of this year?
I have to say I was kind of disappointed with every film that I saw in the theater this year. Even The Dark Knight.
What did you do on your birthday?
On the actual night of my birthday I went out with some friends. However, I celebrated for something like two weeks. I went to New Mexico, I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and my new bed was delivered.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Same as always. Blue jean casual
What kept you sane?
Writing in my journal. (My actual paper journal, not my blog.)
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I am not sure “fancy” is the right word, but I do like to look at the paparazzi pics of Suri Cruise. I think she is awfully cute!

What political issue stirred you the most?
I am not very political and don’t live in California, but I’d have to say “Proposition 8.”
Who did you miss?
My nice and nephew
Who was the best new person you met?
Technically I met him last year, but I really got to know Mr G and he is the best person I got to know this year.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder?
Happier
Thinner or fatter?
Of course I’d like to think I am thinner, but since I don’t own a scale I don’t know for sure. All my clothes still fit though so I suppose I am about the same.
Richer or poorer?
“Richer” – I actually managed to save some money this year!

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Stitching!
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Working! :lol:
This Year’s Holiday Meme

Sorry to cheat with a holiday meme tonight, but every year I have to answer at least one. ;)

  1. Candy cane or peppermint patties? Peppermint patties. I adore the mint/chocolate combination!
  2. Sugar or gingerbread cookies? Sugar. I don’t like gingerbread.
  3. Tinsel or beaded strands? Beaded strands. I think tinsel looks white-trashy.
  4. Multi-colored or same-colored lights? It’s kind of a toss up. Although I am a big fan of multi-colored lights, I love way all blue ones look.
  5. Flashing or still lights? I don’t like flashing ones that just blink on and off. If they are going to flash, they should have some sort of rhythm.
  6. Wreaths or mistletoe/holly? No preference really.
  7. Rudolph or Frosty? Rudolph.
  8. Sledding or snowball fights? Snowball fights. I don’t like to be outside in the snow and cold very long and snowball fights have the advantage of being over quickly (usually).
  9. Snow or ice/icicles? They are both pretty as long as I am looking at them from inside my cozy living room.
  10. Snow hat or earmuffs? Earmuffs. I hate the way snow hats make my hair all static and fly-away.
  11. Getting or giving? Getting!! What can I say? I’m selfish. :)
  12. Snow days or plow trucks? Snow days. Who doesn’t like to stay inside and drink hot cocoa on a cold, snowy day?
  13. Stockings or presents? I haven’t had a stocking since I was a kid, so I guess presents.
  14. Cookies & milk or letter to Santa? Both. First you write the letter to Santa and then on Christmas Eve you leave cookies and milk as a thank you for the presents he brings you.
  15. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Christmas Day. When I was a kid I hated Christmas Eve. The presents were just begging to be opened and you had to go to bed so Santa could come.
  16. Log Burning Channel or real thing? There’s a log burning channel?
  17. Cards or emails? I always have the best intention of sending cards, but since I always put it off people usually get emails instead.
  18. Shoveling or cleaning off the car? Cleaning off the car. It’s much quicker.
One-Minute Writing: Listen

I’m too tired to write much tonight so I though I would try The One-Minute Writer Prompt of the Day. Today’s prompt is:

Listen. Write about what you hear, right now.

Right now I am listening to Mötley Crüe’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” on the new “boom box” I bought for my iPod. Since I bought my iPod in May I have been looking for something so that I can listen without headphones and I have found it. It is the Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 Portable Audio System for iPod.

Wow… a minutes sure goes by fast when you are writing, doesn’t it?

P.S. Given the nature of this exercise my writing has not been edited. Please forgive any grammatical errors you may find. ;)

Six Random Things

Thankfully I was tagged by Anna to do this, because otherwise tonight I would have nothing!

Anyway here are six random things about me:

1.) I have an incredible sweet tooth. I love refined sugar so much that I consider it to be one of my main food groups. There are days when the only things I eat are sweets. In fact, I will eat cookies, cake, or candy, and not think twice about washing said cookies down with a can of Coke. (No Diet Coke for me!) I suppose it’s nothing short of a miracle that I’m not as wide as I am tall…

2.) I HATE to floss! I know I’m supposed to do it, but I just don’t like it. It makes my gums bleed and I hate the taste of blood in my mouth. (Yes, I know that if I would floss more often my gums *supposedly* wouldn’t bleed.) When I was at the dentist the other day the hygienist made me feel guilty enough about my aversion to flossing that I vowed that I will try to floss more often. We’ll see how long it lasts.

3.) I can’t spell. I think I have mentioned this before, but I feel like I can’t defend myself enough on this point. What I probably haven’t mentioned is that I don’t think my inability to spell is my fault. I think it’s genetic. Nobody in my family can spell.

4.) Considering I am a librarian, I actually own remarkably few books. This doesn’t mean I don’t read. I read all the time. However, I prefer to check books out from the library. I am a librarian, not a book collector and I fail to see the purpose of owning a whole lot of books that I will most likely only read once.

5.) I am what I call a “reformed nail-biter.” Like many other bad habits, nail-biting is something you never completely abandon. In order to keep myself from biting my nails, I like to keep my hands busy, which is one of the reasons I cross stitch. I also carry fingernail clippers with me wherever I go so that anytime I get tear or chip in my nail I can clip it before I bite it.

6.) I started reading Twilight tonight. So far, I like it, even though I feel that Bella is a just a little too much of a “damsel in distress” at this point. I may or may not review here it when I am finished. (I anticipate I will finish it sometime this weekend.) We’ll see how desperate I am for posts later. ;)

Unconscious Mutterings Week 302

I really need to work some more on my paper before bed tonight, so tonight’s post is going to be quick. I used to do Unconscious Mutterings every once in a while, but for some reason stopped. Anyway, I checked tonight and the meme is still going strong, so here is Unconscious Mutterings Week 302:

  1. Coverage :: Media
  2. Cynical :: Politics
  3. Gust :: Wind (By the way the wind is sure gusting here tonight!)
  4. Improvised :: Music
  5. V :: for Vendetta
  6. Guests :: “Fish and guests stink in three days.” – Benjamin Franklin
  7. Brutal :: Winter in Iowa
  8. Grant :: Free Money!
  9. Pull :: Push
  10. Streaming :: Audio and Video
